English Australia has produced and published an in-depth report of analysis of the data released by the Department of Education for the YTD September enrolments and commencements of overseas students and the Department of Home Affairs for YTD October data on visas.
The report offers insights into how the sector is changing in response to the many interventions of government over the last two years. This includes analysis of ELICOS numbers as well as of each of the sectors. It also includes analysis of and insights arising from the data relating to:
- application types (re-enrolment versus new to Australia)
- application locations (onshore versus offshore)
- source countries
- state of provider (location)
- temporary visa holders
- enrolments
- commencements
- student visa grants
- student visa applications
- student visa grant rates.
The analysis shows that the surface level data, such as aggregate enrolments and commencements, present a superficial and misleading picture of the what’s actually happening. Some of the ‘below-the-surface’ shifts will surprise many.
