New PEAL Competency Framework Launched – Supporting ELICOS Educators into Higher Ed

We’re excited to announce the launch of the PEAL Practitioner Competency Framework, a major initiative from the English Australia Post-entry English and Academic Language (PEAL) SIG.
As more ELICOS educators step into the post-entry support space, many bring valuable EAP experience—but also face new challenges. The PEAL Practitioner Competency Framework is designed to bridge that gap, clearly outlining the core competencies needed to thrive in PEAL roles across diverse academic contexts.
Building on the foundation of the English Australia CPD Framework, this new resource provides targeted guidance for teachers navigating new genres, learning contexts, and teaching approaches in HE. It’s an essential tool for anyone working in—or aspiring to work in—the dynamic and evolving PEAL space.
The Framework was developed under the leadership of PEAL SIG Convenor Sue Gollagher, in collaboration with a dedicated committee of PEAL practitioners.
