This webinar addresses the significance of “pop culture” as a shared cultural medium to strengthen English language acquisition in multicultural classrooms. It combines theoretical frameworks and practical examples to provide educators with tools to harness “pop culture” in the classroom.

Hosted by ReadyTeacher, this webinar aims to support ELICOS teachers who are looking for new roles to create successful CVs and cover letters. It will also explore how to highlight the transferable skills of ELICOS teachers in job applications.

Transforming teacher development: Introducing the Teachers’ Individual Development Framework 
Webinar: 12 February, 3.30pm-4.15pm (AEDT)
In this webinar, Director of Studies at La Trobe College Australia, Petar Stojanovic, will introduce the Teacher’s Individual Development Framework (TiDF), a novel approach to teacher development and performance reviews that prioritises student-centric values such as psychological safety, belonging and care.

Building workforce readiness: Integrating English proficiency and human skills into language teaching and assessment
Webinar: 25 February at 3.30pm-4.30pm (AEDT) 

In today’s evolving job market, both English proficiency and human skills are essential to employability. This webinar will focus on two free resources developed by Pearson to enable the monitoring and assessment of English language and humans skills for professional contexts, being the Global Scale of English Learning Objectives for Professional Learners and the Skills Development Framework.

We’re recruiting a new English Australia Journal Executive Editor

English Australia is offering an exciting opportunity for an Executive Editor (or Co-Editors) to lead the English Australia Journal, a key resource for ELT practitioners, combining peer-reviewed research, teaching insights, and the latest resource reviews.

This role involves maintaining the Journal’s quality, driving strategic direction, editorial duties, and managing a small team of editors. For further information or to apply, please refer to the position description in the link below. Submissions are due by 11:59pm on Tuesday 18 February 2025.

Join our 2025 Action Research in ELICOS Program!

English Australia and our partner Cambridge are calling for participants in the 2025 Action Research in ELICOS Program with the research theme Promoting formative feedback and assessment: Using generative AI to enhance personalised feedback on language and develop essential life competencies. Teachers benefit from workshops, online discussions and reporting for the duration of the six-month program, supported by Action Research expert Anne Burns and English Australia.

This program offers great opportunities for growth and teacher development, culminating in the presentation of research outcomes at the English Australia Conference and the publishing of research reports in the Cambridge Research Notes journal. Call for abstracts and registrations open for QLD PD Fest

The QLD PD Fest will take place on Saturday 22 March 2025 at UQ College and we are currently calling for abstracts from interested presenters. Presenting at QLD PD Fest is an opportunity to share ideas with the QLD English Language Teaching community and gain experience presenting at an industry conference.

All presenters who are accepted onto the QLD PD Fest Program and who work at an English Australia member college are eligible to enter the QLD Bright Ideas competition, sponsored by Pearson. The winner of the Bright Ideas competition wins a complimentary English Australia Conference registration and an opportunity to present their PD Fest session at the national English Australia Conference, taking place in Brisbane on 27-29 August 2025.
 
The abstract submission deadline is 14 February 2025.

Registrations are also now open for QLD PD Fest. Please get in early and register to avoid missing out. 

Other States’ PD Fests
English Australia will be hosting PD Fests in all our state branches including NSW, SA, VIC and WA again this year. We’ll announce more dates and details about each event in the coming month.
