Could you be the next Convenor or Deputy Convenor of an English Australia Special Interest Group (SIG)?
We are calling for nominations for Convenors and Deputy Convenors of our SIGs. The SIGs include:
- Academic Managers SIG
- Assessment SIG
- Direct Entry Programs SIG
- Ed-Tech SIG
- Post-Entry English and Academic Language SIG
- Wellbeing SIG (formerly Mental Health SIG)
Why nominate for a Convenor role?
Being a SIG Convenor of an industry peak body is a professional development opportunity, a way to give back to your sector, and an avenue to expand your networks and reach. As a SIG Convenor you could:
- hold a sector-wide leadership position
- work with a national group of Convenors from other English Australia colleges and with English Australia
- deepen your professional networks
- contribute to industry projects.
English Australia is more effective if it has strong member contribution and involvement in its leadership. By appointing SIG Convenors from within our member base, we are fortunate to be able to leverage the expertise and practical knowledge of member representatives to keep our work relevant to the broader industry.
Duties of SIG Convenors
Each SIG will have one Convenor and up to four Deputy Convenors who will be appointed on two-year terms. Four out of five Convenors per SIG must work for an English Australia member college. One Convenor can be someone who is from outside the English Australia membership and who has considerable experience and knowledge in the field of the SIG.
You can read more about the specific duties and expectations of SIG Convenors by clicking on the link below.
How to nominate
The deadline to submit your nomination is 11:59pm on Thursday 28 November.
English Australia full member colleges may nominate individuals working in their college by using the nomination form below.
Individuals from outside the English Australia membership may be nominated by their or another organisation relevant to the field of the SIG and should use the nomination form below.
Nomination form for non-members
In addition to completing the nomination form, nominees are requested to provide up to one-page (maximum) of information about themselves and a portrait photo, both of which will be distributed to assist members to make informed decisions and cast their votes for SIG Convenors. This information should include:
- the name of the nominee, their institution/organisation and their current role; and
- an outline of the nominee’s background, experience, knowledge and relevant skills which would assist them to perform their role as SIG Convenor/Deputy Convenor.
The page of information should be emailed to Sophie, Head of Professional Development at English Australia via sophieokeefe@englishaustralia.com.au by the nomination deadline of 11:59pm on Thursday 28 November.
The nominee with the most votes for each SIG will be the elected Convenor. The four nominees with the next highest number of votes will be the elected Deputy Convenors. If five or fewer eligible people per SIG are nominated for the Convenor roles, an election will not be necessary.
If you have any questions about the role of a SIG Convenor and/or would like to discuss these roles further, please reach out to Sophie, Head of Professional Development at English Australia via sophieokeefe@englishaustralia.com.au or on 0426 814 577.
