Market highlights

- YTD September commencements increased by 53.3% across all sectors. Enrolments increased by 34.2%.
- The VET sector experienced an increase in commencements at 36.1% or 41,210 additional students when compared to YTD September 2022.
- The Non-award sector experienced an increase in commencements at 65.4% or 9,427 additional students versus YTD September 2022.
Visa trends:
ELICOS only grants down by 43.64%
Independent ELICOS grants were down in September 2023 by 43.64%, compared with September 2022, with 2,176 fewer grants.
Offshore grants for Independent ELICOS were down by 53.36% in September 2023, with 2,615 fewer grants, compared to September 2022. Onshore grants for Independent ELICOS were up by 516.47%, with 439 more grants.
ELICOS only visas granted to citizens from China were over 215% higher in September 2023 compared to September 2022. ELICOS visa grants for citizens from Thailand were down by 84.96% and were down by 59.82% for citizens from Colombia, while grants to citizens from Brazil were up by over 48.52% for the same comparison period. ELICOS only visas granted to citizens from Mongolia were eight times higher in September 2023 compared to September 2022.
