YTD April ELICOS commencements increased by 205.2% versus April 2022. Enrolments increased by 307.6%.
Market highlights
- Commencements from Latin America continue to be strong, with Colombia increasing by 883.8 % or 9,899 additional students, and commencements from Brazil increasing by 310.3% or 3,953 additional students.
- Commencements from China increased by 57.3% or 1,440 additional students versus YTD April 2022. Chinese students made up 9.1% of commencements within ELICOS.
- Thailand continues to hold the #3 market position with 118% growth or 2,522 additional commencements.
- YTD April commencements increased by 59.5% across all sectors. Enrolments increased by 29.3%.
- The VET sector experienced an increase in commencements at 33.1% or 19,159 additional students when compared to YTD April 2022.
- The Non-award sector experienced an increase in commencements at 199% or 7,701 additional students versus YTD April 2022.
Visa trends:
ELICOS only grants up by over 173%
The Independent ELICOS sector grants were up in April 2023 by 185.67%, compared with April 2022, with 3,355 more grants.
Offshore grants for Independent ELICOS were up by 155.18% in April 2023, with 2,711 more grants, compared to April 2022. Onshore grants for Independent ELICOS were again almost eleven times higher, with 644 more grants.
ELICOS only visas granted to citizens from China were 12 times higher and five times higher for citizens from Vietnam in April 2023 compared to April 2022. ELICOS visa grants for citizens from Colombia were 6.6 times higher with 1,605 more grants, while grants to citizens from Brazil were up by 90.08% or 590 more grants for the same comparison period.
ELICOS only lodgements up by over 13%
The total number of Independent ELICOS visa applications lodged for April 2023 was up by 13.03% compared to April 2022, with 5,186 total lodgements.
