September records 2020’s largest decrease in commencements
September 2020 YTD has delivered a 37.8% decrease compared with September 2019 YTD. YTD figures at September 2020 show 56,345 ELICOS commencements whereas YTD numbers in September 2019 were at 90,519.
September is traditionally a strong month for ELICOS but this year recorded just 4,093 commencements. This is almost a 70% decrease compared to September 2019, which saw 12,795 commencements.
Student visa grants down 55% for ELICOS-only students
The Independent ELICOS sector visa grant figures for YTD September 30th 2020 show an overall fall of 16,511 grants or 55.8%. This was comprised of a dramatic fall in offshore grants of 15,357 or 67% and a much smaller fall in onshore grants of 1,154 or 17%. While traditionally offshore grants make up approximately 75% of the total Independent ELICOS visa applications, due to COVID19 this has fallen to 58% for YTD September 30th.
