ELICOS commencements fall 60.8% for July 2021 YTD
Another month sees another decline in commencements of around 60%, a figure that the ELICOS sector seems to have landed on as the ‘standard’ percentage decline each month. Every month in 2021 has declined a little over 60%, although February was much closer to 70%, at 68.6%. This is somewhat positive as it seems the sector has bottomed out in its decline, but the size of the decline highlights the urgent need for continued support until borders reopen.
Offshore ELICOS-only visa grants improve, comparing July 2021 to July 2020
July 2020 recorded 136 offshore grants while July 2021 saw 160 grants, a 17.7% improvement. While this improvement only considers grants issued in July 2020 contrasted with grants issued in July 2021, it is refreshing to see an improvement.
However, perspective still needs to be maintained as when we move to comparing year-to-date figures between 2021 and 2020, the reality of the ELICOS sector’s situation becomes much more apparent. July 2020 YTD’s numbers saw 11,743 ELICOS-only visa grants issued whereas July 2021 YTD’s numbers recorded 2,020 grants issued. This 82.9% decline shows more truly where the ELICOS sector currently stands.
