ELICOS commencements drop 4.9%
COVID-19 and the subsequent ban on foreign nationals from 19 March are starting to impact the sector. Chinese commencements are significantly down, dropping over on-third on March 2019’s numbers, and we expect to see this worsen in April.
Just three top-10 source countries grow
Colombia, Thailand and Spain were the only countries to record any growth in March 2020. Colombia continues to produce astonishing numbers with a 31.2% increase on March 2019. Both Thailand and Spain’s growth was not insignificant, reaching 8.2% and 5.0% respectively.
WA continues strong growth despite COVID-19
The Northern Territory, Queensland and Western Australia all grew in March 2020. Although the NT’s growth was impressive, hitting 30.0%, this is off a small base. WA’s growth reached 6.7%, bringing in an extra 122 students.
