There have been many significant announcements over the past month. Federally, we’ve seen a changing of the guard with the Labour government on track to form a majority. English Australia looks forward to working with the new government and relevant Ministers set to be announced shortly. Our achievements of the past year were recognised with the announcement as a PIEoneer Association of the Year finalist, and we were proud to release our latest Guide to Good Practice. We have lots of projects and initiatives for members to engage in and I’m looking forward to seeing many of you at the Branch meeting/ member forums throughout June.
TEQSA: Warning issued after students encouraged to upload and share assignments online
A sector alert from TEQSA has been released in response to promotional emails and social media campaigns offering students $10,000 if they upload course materials and assignments to academic file sharing websites.

March has been a productive month for English Australia and the sector, as we begin to emerge from the long-term effects of our international border closures. The 2021-22 Federal Budget referenced several key initiatives that English Australia successfully advocated for over the past year that I know are already having a positive impact on our members.
ASQA: VET and ESOS Quality Assessors and Course Accreditation Assessors
On March 11 Austender published an Approach to Market (ATM) for a Panel of suitably qualified VET and ESOS Quality Assessors and Course Accreditation Assessors to provide ASQA additional regulatory capacity for assessment and monitoring activities.
Austrade’s Welcome to Australia Campaign
Austrade launched the Welcome to Australia Campaign last December to welcome the return of international students.Austrade encourages English Australia members who are CRICOS-registered providersto use the Austrade Marketing Toolkit.
TEQSA Translated academic integrity resources for students
To help students better understand how to avoid illegal academic cheating services, TEQSA has launched a suite of materials in languages other than English.

It has been a positive start to the year with the reopening of our international borders across the East Coast, and WA preparing to open this week. Thank you to the many members who have provided us with updates on their circumstances.Whilst it is too early to say that we have overcome the worst of it, the tides are certainly turning, with applications (particularly for Independent ELICOS student visas) on the rise.

ELICOS Interim Report and Survey
English Australia is pleased to present the Future of ELICOS interim report and want to thank the more than 100 colleges and over 240 college staff who provided their responses to our preliminary survey conducted in 2021.
ELICOS sector support via the Innovation Development Fund 2021-22 – applications are now open
English Australia is delighted to be appointed as the Program Administrator for the Innovation Development Fund 2021-22 by the Department of Education, Skills and Employment. Applications for the fund are now open and close at midnight (AEDT) on 28 January 2022.
